"Why do you wear makeup? You'd look so much better without it."
Excuse me, MATE. You are clearly misunderstood. I don't mean to sound superficial, but NO, I FRIGGIN' WOULD NOT LOOK BETTER WITHOUT MAKEUP ON.
And if you SAW me without makeup on? You would run crying to your mother like a little baby boy who is scared to go to sleep at night because of hideous monsters under his bed.
I am that monster!!
Don't get me wrong - some (very lucky) girls can pull off wearing no makeup and looking decent. I am not one of those girls. I look completely different, and not in a good way. My skin lacks colour, my eyes look downright naked. It's not pretty. This is why I do not leave the house without *at least* some foundation on. Call me shallow, but it's for society's own good. I don't want anyone to think a zombie apocalypse has begun.
Male friend or admirer, please shut your mouth. Do not make statements you know nothing about. Why does the beauty industry rake in billions of dollars a year? Definitely not because women everywhere are going "natural".
Next time you utter this ridiculous line to a girl, please alter your words a bit - suggest she wears less makeup, not NONE AT ALL. Or as I said - just don't open your mouth at all.
I leave you with a comparison:

...Know what I'm sayin?
I know so many people who insist on using make up, but actually do look better without it. The majority in fact.
ReplyDeleteI'll stop now =P
Yeah, but you're 18. You'd know a lot of girls the same age. The older you get - the more alcohol you drink - four years makes a big difference haha.
ReplyDeleteAlso, are these people any good at putting on makeup? think about THAT!)
And maybe it's just the Sydney sun... Excuses aside, lucky them!
Oh yeah you're really getting old hey =P
ReplyDeleteBut yeah most people I know are my age or a little older. Sydney is awesome (not going to start that, I've been having this Sydney vs. Melbourne thing since January)
Situation for you: If I was talking to two girls, and one is explaining how she is unsure about some guy, but she thinks he is nice, and has nice hands (I was a little wtf when she said that), and the other girl agrees and says that guys with nice hands and a nice watch are always good - then looks down at my watch and makes some passing comment about noticing it (it is a nice watch). Reckon that means something?
Sorry. Just thought I would get an opinion.
Haha, I am totally getting old, people born in the 80s are getting into their 30s now...
ReplyDeleteWell to be quite blatant with you, I think she (the second girl) was hitting on you. Haha, you're in!
I have heard alot of girls say that - the hand thing - I mean if a guy has nice hands, that's cool, but it wouldn't be the first thing I'd look at.
Hahah oh yeah you're an 80s child. Scary thoughts. 90s is the decade of greats....well, soon it will be anyway =P
ReplyDeleteYou reckon? Hahah I don't know. They seemed to think you can judge a guy by his watch, and I asked whether I was okay or not and they seemed to think I was...based on my watch...haha
Yeah true, I just thought it was an odd thing to say about someone...
Aurgh! I know what you're talking about. When my (male) friends talk about how girls look so much better with makeup I just smile and nod my head. "Like you!" A friend said in one such conversation, "you almost never wear makeup, right?"
ReplyDeleteI giggled, winked and said, "Suuureee..." Truth is, I wear concealer, powder, eye liner and mascara every day. Without it, I have deep shadows under my eyes, a shiny t-zone and weakly-defined eyes.
I think what guys think when they think of "makeup" is coloured stuff applied too thickly - eye shadow, thick liner, blusher and lipstick. They can't imagine how much of a difference a bit of concealer, a neutral eye liner and some pink lip gloss can make.
Ah, the art of looking like you are bare-faced and rolled out of bed all dewy-eyed and fresh, without actually rolling out of bed and looking like a zombie, eh?
Couldn't agree more! "Make up" to a lot of guys probably just means "cake face". Perhaps that's where Nick is getting confused about the majority of girls he knows :P
ReplyDeleteBut you're so right about the difference it can make. Ah, I'd be so lost without cosmetics!
Not really, I honestly don't know anyone I would consider a 'cake face' hahah. But yeah I know, that is the kind of image you get.
